Sarangi wins Gold in Genève

 




Sri Lankan athletes and athletes have participated in several sporting events in Switzerland and India.Sri Lanka's national long jump champion Lakshini Sarangi Silva won the gold medal in the 6.33m long jump (women's) on the 11th of June 2022 Swiss Athletics Championships in Switzerland on Saturday. In her final attempt, she set a world record of 6.33 m (+ 2.4m / s). However, her best legal jump was 6.29 meters. There was a sharp competition for the long jump event of this tournament which is being held as a continental competition of the World Athletics Association. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan athlete Gayanthika Abeyrathne, who is hoping to be nominated for the World Championships in Athletics, which starts on July 15, 2022, in Isuzu, USA, finished seventh in 2 minutes 03.62 seconds. Accordingly, her talents have not come to the fore in this tournament. The Sri Lankan athlete, who previously clocked a time of 2 minutes 01.44 seconds, must show a minimum of 1 minute 59.50 seconds to qualify for the World Athletics Championships.

Kalinga Kumara, another Sri Lankan athlete who measured his performance at the Swiss Championships on June 12, 2022, clocked 46.42 seconds in the men's 400m event. Trevor Stebert of the United States won the gold medal in 44.99 seconds, dropping Kalinga Kumarage's place to sixth.

His best performance in Sri Lanka so far was 45.97 seconds. To enter the Isuzujin World Athletics Championships, he must clock a minimum of 44.90 seconds. Sugath Tillekeratne's Fracona's record of 44.61 seconds in 1998 is the Sri Lankan record in the 400m (Men ') event which has not been broken so far.
